Dear friends and neighbours,
This was a busy week as two major subjects were being dealt with in District 7. First, the Coburg Road bike lane construction and secondly, Point Pleasant Park as a encampment.
Friends of Schmidtville- Bettering Homelessness of July 25, 2024
On behalf of the Friends of Schmidtville and myself, we want to thank all those who attended the meeting. We feel it was a great success, and we will keep the momentum going. I will be posting the minutes of the meeting on my website and releasing a special newsletter with the meeting minutes this week. The petition I have begun to protect Point Pleasant Park already has hundreds of signatures. If you wish to sign the petition please contact me. There is a plan in place to present the petition at the August 6th Regional Council meeting. As a result of the meeting there are other action items currently in the works.

Active Transportation Committee:
To be clear we need active transportation for a sustainable future but citizens need to be informed and included in the decision making process. I am here to see change happen and to get municipal government back to being for the people.
Over the past weeks, I have been advising Coburg Road residents on how to raise their concerns about the construction of a bike lane on the western portion of Coburg Road. I suggested making a petition and gather signatures, I advised to present to the Active Transportation Committee, contacting staff, and connecting with Councillors.
– Residents took my advise and on July 25th, the petition was given to the Active Transportation Committee. Several people spoke, including myself, noting the lack of engagement, narrowing the road, residents concerns of emergency service access, resident and proper communication of project details.
– The cost of this project, which was decided on in 2019, is just over $288,000.00. The city has a duty of care to ensure cost meets the best level quality and efficiency of fiscal use for residents.
– The Active Transportation Committee listened but did not take action.
– Residents are considering further action at this time.
